what's with all these people calling Strify only "Jack" ?

im sick rn, so i figured i'll write this short-ish (but not really) blog entry now!

okay, so, whats with all these people calling Strify "Jack"?

yes, yes, i understand, that his full stage name is Jack E. Strify, but honestly, it’s just weird to me when people shorten it down to only "jack."

the people who do this are usually newer fans. but the question is: where do they even find out, or get the impression, that they’re supposed to call him "jack strify"? because if you go through his socials, in none of them he ever says something like “hey, im jack strify.” his usernames everywhere are just “Strify.” he presents himself as Strify and not as Jack.

and another detail that makes this even stranger: a lot of those new fans aren’t even fans of his solo career. and that’s kind of important, because he only officially started going by Jack Strify during his solo years. so it just feels like people randomly got the idea that youre supposed to call him "Jack Strify"

now, to really break this down, let’s look at how his myspace bio actually changed over the years. this is basically the closest thing we have to how he defined his name publicly back then:

december 9, 2007:
"Howdy! Here's Jack Strify (just called Strify, the Jack is an ode to Jack Skellington. I think Jack Strify sounds like a brand name :>)."

august 15, 2008:
"Let me introduce myself: My name is Jack E. Strify, but I’m only called Strify."

june 29, 2009:
"WHO IS JACK E. STRIFY?
Who am I - That's what a lot of people ask me."

so if we put all of this together, it’s pretty clear: he was never just “jack.” the “jack” part was always tied to the whole stage name, and even he himself said that people should just call him Strify. the “jack” is more like an extra word, and not something that is his only nickname.

and that’s why it just weirds me out whenever i see people casually calling him only “jack" - it feels off.

so yeah, if you’re going to call him “jack,” at least say the full thing: jack strify. otherwise, just stick with strify, which is literally what he wanted to be called.
